2026 and the Future
The rumblings about changes in the Church of Scotland that were mentioned earlier have indeed come to pass. Dundonald is, for now at least, safe from closure. We now have a “Union” with Cragie Symington Church to form Craigie, Dundonald and Symington Parish and are still in vacancy. Our minister, like every other minister in the Church of Scotland, when we get one, will be expected to do double the work! How?
The new Charge still thrives, though Sunday attendance is down (isn’t every church today?) but we continue to have a service every Sunday in both church buildings and hold special services for the bereaved, the housebound and those with special needs. Our organisations continue to thrive and cater for both young and old, just as a church should, and it is thanks to many dedicated people that all of this happens.
Well, that’s Dundonald Parish Church for now. It’s had a long life in this wee village spanning some 1526 years. There have been 5 church buildings that we know of, Saint Modwenna’s cell, The Chapel Royal somewhere around the castle, and three Parish Church buildings but I leave you with a though I hope is worthy of my additions to Dr Gordon Stewart’s excellent document.
“The building is not the Church; the people are the Church”
