2004 and up to Date
In 2004 the minister was Rev. Robert Mayes who cared well for his parish until he retired in 2017. During the later years there came the first mutterings of a complete reorganisation of the Church of Scotland and its parishes. There were too many churches and too few people going to them, the church was in a serious national decline.
None the less, Dundonald still had a Congregational Roll of over 400 of whom around 100 to 120 came to Sunday worship each week. We had a thriving Sunday School and Bible Class and a large Boys Brigade Company.
During his tenure, Rev. Mayes introduced the “Golden Egg” awards whereby four members of the congregation were presented each year with a handmade gift based round a duck egg which had been sprayed with golden paint. Each gift was themed to reflect the recipient’s contribution to the Church. In all Rev. Mayes presented 116 of them but he was caught by surprise one Sunday, while presenting the awards, and was presented with a special 100th Egg award himself.
Upon Rev. Mayes retirement Dundonald embarked on its quest to find a new minister. In the vacancy we were ably serviced by, amongst others, Rev. George Fiddes (Interim Moderator), Rev. David Harper, Rev. Alasdair Symington and Rev. Glenda Keating.
Happily, in 2019 Rev. Lynsey J. Brennan answered our call and she and her family of three boys and husband Stephen moved in to the manse in January 2019. Lynsey was ordained and inducted in to Dundonald Parish Church in February 2019 but removed to Milngavie in 2024.
